There are four tasks in the Pearson Test of English Academic which are performed by choosing one or more answers from multiple choices. For these tasks, there are four to five options which may be words, phrases, or sentences.
These tasks are the following:
|Section||Task Type||Task Description||Feature||Strategies|
|Reading||Multiple-choice, choose single answer||After reading a test, answer a multiple-choice question on the content or tone of the text by selecting one response.||Length of the text is up to 300 words||Skim and scan the text to know the overall topic and how the rest of the ideas support the main topic.
Read the question before you go over the text so that you will be guided on what to look for in the paragraphs. Questions may be about the overall topic, main idea or the writer’s view. Answer/s may be located on any of the paragraphs.
The answer/s may not be the exact words found on the passage. They can be different but of the same meaning. Hence, looking for the options on the text may not really work always.
|Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers||After reading a text, answer a multiple-choice question on the content or tone of the text by selecting more than one response.|
|Listening||Multiple-choice, choose single answer||After listening to a recording, answer a multiple-choice question on the content or tone of the recording by selecting one response||When the task is up, the recording will play automatically. It can only be listened once.||Concentrate on the recording. Do not be distracted with unfamiliar words. If you lose your train of thought in the middle of listening, regain your attention immediately.
An erasable noteboard will be provided so you may take down key words while listening.
Read the question and options before the audio will start playing so that you will be guided on what to look for in the paragraphs. Questions may be about the overall topic, main idea or the writer’s view. Answer/s may be mentioned at the beginning, middle or end of the audio.
|Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers||After listening to a recording, answer a multiple-choice question on the content or tone of the text by selecting more than one response|
