Effective 1st of November 2017, Engineers Australia will accept Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) test score reports as proof of English language competency. The minimum score shall be 50 for each Communicative skill (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). Note that a score of 50 is equivalent to zero points in the points-test system of the General Skilled Migration visas.
The PTE Academic test result must have been obtained within the 36 months immediately prior to the date of assessment application lodgment.
Exemptions are available to applicants if they can provide documentary evidence of either of the following:
- That they have completed an Australian undergraduate engineering qualification or a two-year Master’s degree (92 weeks full time) or PhD program at an Australian university.
- That they are native English speakers. A native English speaker is a person who has lived and taken their primary, secondary and tertiary education in a country where the official language is English. These countries are Australia, New Zealand, United States of America, United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada (excluding Quebec).
